Keeping traditions is what makes Carmina exceptional
Ever since 1866 when Matías Pujadas opened the doors of his small workshop in the heart of Mallorca, creating beautifully crafted shoes became a mission. Generations past, at Carmina Shoemaker we are immensely dedicated to maintain the traditions in manufacturing shoes and creating the pattern is not short of it.
The creative artistry starts with creating the pattern of a shoe which is a laborious and extensive process - from choosing the last to match the design, to sampling and editing the details of the shoe that will become a new model for our collection. Our dedicated craftsmen are highly skilled in the art of finding the perfect balanced in terms of style and creating unique pieces.
Our master pattern maker will start by hand drawing the design over the wooden last, which is a traditional method hardly ever done by shoemakers today. This almost holistic method highly respects the design of the shoes and is traced in such detail from buckles, tassels to every small stitch that will create a fine new pair.
Once the new design is evaluated and edited, it is time to transfer it onto adhesive tracing paper so it can be prepared for production.
The development of a single pattern requires around 2-3 months from the first draft until the final version of the shoes. Our master pattern maker meticulously calculates the symmetry lines, the positioning of different pieces, broguing and spacing, the leather´s weight and its flexibility.
We create each pattern piece individually and manufacture them in hardboard – these pieces will work as templates for the clicking department. They can then cut the leather that will make up the uppers and lining of the shoes. Our pattern is now ready to be translated for the factory in all available sizes.
We believe that besides using the best quality leather, combining it with technical skill and creating impeccable, elegant designs is equally important and is what distinguishes Carmina Shoemaker from other brands. To learn more about our craftsmanship, check out relevant information
